I bought this book looking for a way to finally break some bad habits that have been holding me back from being my best self. I have read several others on this topic and have never really been able to successfully utilize what they have recommended, probably because my personality didn’t match the method they were espousing. This book is different. Because Sylvie Heyman uses an easy-going, storytelling style full of personal anecdotes and those of others, with techniques backed up by research from many different fields, ‘Make It a Habit’ gave me many approaches to try in a non-threatening way. I resonated with two of the cases, and I now believe that there really is a way to change what has been engrained for a long time. I have made it a habit to read these sections regularly and am beginning to see some small success. Only time will tell, but I am hopeful.Product details

I've not only had the pleasure of reading this book, but I've had the honor of hearing Sylvie Heyman speak live. In both cases, I came away with very useful and practical information to help me to make small but significant shifts in my behavior. This has resulted in me feeling more empowered to make choices that are healthier for me.

This book is a Real Gem, so creatively written by a true master of sharing her work, and tremendous experience as a care giver and educator, with knowledge, wisdom, creativity taking you on this journey of life!!! Dr. Sylvie Heyman’s book, Make it A Habit, accomplishes exactly what it purports to do it provides easy to follow programs to help change existing habits – or develop new ones – all the while telling her own engaging stories. She grabs your attention right from her first sentence by telling a riveting story. Her approach throughout her book opened windows for me on simple ways to change my own habits in order to achieve a healthier, happier and more productive life.
Using true stories of her own accomplishments, as well as those of her patients and clients, and drawing on the research of highly respected psychologists, not to mention her own superb credentials, she keeps you spellbound throughout her book. Read it. It can change your life!

This book is really, really good! Dr Heyman has a great writing style. She is honest and vulnerable, full of wisdom as well as knowledge. She talks about having to migrate from Argentina to the United States and the negative impact it had on her. She is incredibly open about her own compulsions, and the stories about her patients are very touching. Her explanation of the science behind habits is simple and easy to understand. I just really enjoyed it. It's an easy 5 stars for me!
I'm writing this review around the first of the year, when many people are setting new years goals or "resolutions". Less than 10% of people actually meet their New Year's goals, because they do not have the knowledge and skills to change their habits. This book by Dr. Heyman is the answer to making long lasting change in your life. The author uses her own real life examples to make the techniques clear and simple. Well done!
I loved Sylvie Heyman’s book Make It A Habit. It reinforced my belief that I had developed some strong & positive habits that had made my life easier and more successful. But more importantly, it made me realize that there was so much more work I could do to develop other good habits. I feel truly fortunate to have read this book and have recommended it to many friends who I knew could benefit greatly. The book is well written with very good examples of how to develop and master good habits that can really change your life. None of us are perfect, and this book brings us closer to being the person we want to be.

It is a well-rounded and interesting read and the author not only addresses many different types of habits and how to resolve them but she does it in a voice that is interesting and well-written. As you are reading, you feel as though she is speaking with you directly and personally.
The book discusses several fascinating case studies and the author’s perspective (she openly discusses her own previous struggles with bad habits) is refreshing and genuine. The truth is that all human beings develop bad habits. Sylvie Heyman has successfully covered a wonderful variety of habits that touch on the physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual. This book addresses every one of us and the author’s voice makes us feel that we are not alone in our struggle to overcome bad habits.
